The interference of matter waves is often presented in textbooks as a historical demonstration cementing wave-particle duality. Far from being just a quirk of quantum mechanics, modern matter wave interferometry is a precise toolbox for atomic physicists with possible applications ranging from GPS-free navigation to detection of gravitational waves. We will be exploring a new direction for the field using atom interferometry to probe the properties of dark matter and dark energy using laser-cooled atoms.
